MECPS:10 year reunion

Time sure does fly!!! 10 years ago, June 26th, to be exact, me as well as several other Medgar Ever heads graduated high school. I know, I know, I look like I graduated high school a couple of years ago but no, your girl is up there lol. I remember it like it was yesterday. Skipping classes to go hang out in Mrs. P's office. Having parties in the cafeteria or any function for that matter. (Our cafeteria was the biggest open space lol * whew chile the ghetto* jk) And who could forget our principal, Dr. Wiltshire. The last time most of us seen one another was sitting in the hallways conjuring something cool to sign in each other's yearbooks. We needed a way to bring all of those memories and people together and what better way than with a reunion. And that's exactly what we did.

To commemorate what seemed to be a life time ago, all roads led to Brooklyn. Nzuri Lounge hosted our little but massive reunion for all of 2009 graduates from Medgar Evers College Preparatory School. (So they elongated this damn name while we students there. I honestly don't remember the previous name.) We traded in our white collared shirts and khaki dickies for shots, drinks and reminiscing of old times. Did you ever think that 10 years would pass by so quickly? I know I didn't. It still amazes me how much things can change in a year, let alone ten.

It was such a pleasant outing to have everyone gathered around as if no time has passed at all. There were people that I've seen here and there throughout the years but then there were others that I haven't seen, in person, since 2009. Luckily we have social media to help bridge those gaps but nothing is better than the real deal. And might I add, we all GREW up. (Thank god!!) I can recall some old beefs and disagreements from our high school days but happily to say, none of that mattered. I would hope no one was harboring any hate from that era. (Hey you never know *shrugs*) At this point everyone was family and everyone was yelling "Kinfolk" by the time they walked into the lounge.

You felt the love from when you walked in. People who were once teens, are now by the bar with glasses in front of them. Classmates dancing as if we were back in that hot cafeteria. From the lounge to the HUGE photoshoot happening right on Fulton Street to the impromptu after party, there were no bad vibes. I guess that's what happens when the drinks are flowing and everyone's genuinely having a good time and of course happy to see each other. Not to say I was expecting everyone in a circle singing "kum ba yah". And to think I was going to skip out on this event because I didn't feel like driving out there for one night but your girl put the pedal to the metal and got that ass to New York. As you spoke to each person you could see how time has done everyone good. The conversations were evolved, any walls were broken down and just the overall headspace had you questioning yourself "Why didn't we hang out again?"

I'm so happy for my High School family. There were things I learned in high school that surely shaped me into the woman I am today. And I'm the bomb, baby!! But all in all it was so great to catch up with everyone and hopefully we can do this again in the next 5 or 10 years.

P.S. These pics were taken about a MONTH ago. Since then bread, rice and those other pesky carbs have been very limited within my diet. ANDDDDD your girl has been going to the gym 4 to 5 days a week. I say that to sayyyy lol as of today I look way better than my beautiful, curvacious self in these photos and I lost 3 lbs(still working on that fupa). Aowww. Later guys. xoxo
